L07_The Radiant City// Yeap Huei Sze

The radiant city is like a future blueprint. It is more focus on how to let people come out from struggle by using architecture. The struggling including the daily traffic jam when you walk out from your house, work load, also including the recreational activity as the green around us are lesser and lesser. The blueprint is to create a healthier living condition for the major citizen.

This make me think of when designing , I should make the user experience, needs, and safety as the main consideration. Like what space should I provide for them too have a better living qualities. As this is what architecture will bring to the community, architecture is for community. I should also think out of the box, to propose better idea to tackle the struggling of the community and bring them back to nature. To quote an example, in Radiant city, the recreational area will be at ground floor, where we human should be having activities on ground rather than on a slab.

So it is not just form and space for a building, I have to consider the uses, how the activities work, how's the circulation affecting the building space planning. This is also an important consideration in my final design project, where we have to adaptive reuse pasar Sg Chua. The pasar initially have it own culture, and of course have it weakness where we could improve. To improve the weakness, I have to did some analysis to find out the needs of the community and the current building situation. And in my design proposal, I'm trying to figure out how to tackle or improve the problem to make the current pasar situation better.

There's in term of zoning, circulation and safety. As pasar have different types or categories of goods to sell, and have different characteristic like wet and dry, so the proper zoning will play an important role. Besides, the circulation of automobile including the loading bay, visitor parking, drop off and the circulation of pedestrian have to be carefully consider as the place is having the busy circulation everyday. Safety is also need to be consider. Is the circulation ensure the community safety? Is the arrangement of stalls safe for the vendor and the visitor? As designer, I also have to consider what activities are having in the pasar , what new activities can I create for them. A lot more to be consider and to be tackle in order to create a better space for a better user experience, this is what architecture do.
